Just act!

From my Dad

Bite me don't you know what a turn signal means?

Summertime's long been my fav'rite, now it's ole autumn I love --Steve Forbert, "Responsibility"

I'm not sure when he wrote this, but Forbert must have been about 36-37 when the album the song appears on was released. That's about how old I am now (minus a year or two). In the last few years, I've found myself looking forward to fall, relishing fall, in a way I looked forward to, and relished summer when I was younger. I thought about this today, walking back from the Bread Co. where I'd just enjoyed a half Portabella/Mozzarella panini and a half Tomato/Mozzarella salad.

A few years ago, if you would have told me that one mid-summer afternoon, I'd walk 10 blocks round trip for a Portobello/Mozzarella sandwich, while being anxious for autumn to arrive, I'd've said "Nuts to you," faster than you could say Jack Robinson (or, as I called him the other day: Jack Nightingale).

I continue to have dreams about knitting. Sometimes I'm buying new yarn and needles, sometimes--most often--I'm knitting and getting caught up in the rhythm of knitting. Given the fact that I recently purchased yarn, needles and books on the subject of knitting, this is hardly surprising.

Except that, in two, almost three weeks, I'm no further along than the first day. In fact, I think I'm a worse knitter today than three weeks ago. At least I'd gotten up to a couple of rows of stitches.

But, in my dreams I can knit!

I promised myself that I would limit my discussion of this to my earlier post, but I really gotta know something.

So, someone, preferably someone who voted for this consitutional amendment that defines marriage as a union between and man and a woman, tell me why you voted this way. Specifically, how would a legally-recognized union between members of the same sex, be harmful to you or to society. I want specifics, not this vague moralizing that is continually spat at me, or the argument that such a union is unnatural. That may or may not be. However, gay people are doing the nasty w/ or w/out a sanctioned marriage; this ban isn't going to stop that, and that would seem to me to be at the crux of this "unnaturalism." And further, how does this unnatural act actually impact your life? Or, if you concede that it doesn't directly impact your life, explain to me how society is going to benefit from this amendment.

Please.
